Restoration of a casa colonica.8

Nearing completion

Construction commenced in May 2006 and was substantially complete by November 2006, a time lapse of only six months. Credit for the achievement is due to Paolo, il capomastro. Paolo blends his knowledge of traditional construction techniques with an understanding of contemporary requirements and needs. He is also a very hard worker. The result has exceeded expectation.

Wood casement windows with insulation glass were installed in the restored openings. Simple wood interior and exterior doors appropriate to the structure were replicated except for a pair of glass doors providing access from the kitchen and dining area to the new veranda looking southwest to the Monti Sibillini. The final plaster finish was applied to the early 20th century addition. The stair to the entry portico was reinforced and restored.

Interior plasterwork was completed around restored window openings and tile sills were installed. Traditional floor tiles were laid on all floor surfaces and sealed. Masonry supports for kitchen and bathroom stone countertops were constructed and plastered.
